The Subtle Trap of “Almost True” (Free)

How to discern and stand firm in God’s unchanging truth

Hello I inadvertently put today’s devotional behind a paywall by mistake. So here it is again for free. Sorry about that

Daily Devotional: Almost True Is Still False

Key Verse:
"Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment."
— Proverbs 12:19

Devotional:

Have you ever come across something that sounded so convincing, only to realize later it wasn’t entirely true? In today’s world, where we are bombarded by endless streams of information, it’s easy to get swept up by half-truths disguised as wisdom.

Consider this: a viral video recently claimed that injecting Redwoods with a special substance would prevent them from going dormant, drawing a comparison to humans needing “seasons of rest.” The message was powerful—until it was debunked. Redwoods don’t go dormant, as they are evergreens, and the trees shown were actually Sequoias.

This story reminds us how easily truth can be twisted. Proverbs 12:19 offers a timeless warning: “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.” God’s truth is eternal and unchanging, while falsehood—no matter how convincing—is fleeting. We are called to root ourselves in His Word, discerning what is true and rejecting what is merely “almost true.”

Reflection & Prayer Prompt:

  1. Reflection: Are there “almost-truths” influencing your beliefs, decisions, or relationships? Ask God to reveal these areas and replace them with His eternal wisdom.

  2. Faith in Action: Write down a truth from Scripture that has brought you clarity or peace in the past. Share it with a friend or family member who might need encouragement today.

Prayer:
Lord, I long to stand on the solid foundation of Your truth. In a world filled with distractions and deceptions, help me to discern what is true and reject what is false. Let my words and actions reflect Your eternal wisdom, and guide me to share Your light with others. Amen.
